Capture the spirit of the season with your hands and heart in this special Christmastime workshop. In celebration of the Nativity, we will use the humblest of craft materials, the husks of corn, to craft figures representing the miracle that took place in the manger so long ago.
Learn traditional Appalachian style doll techniques and create Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus, an Angel, and more as time allows. Please pack a lunch, scissors, a box to carry your treasures home, and your creativity. All other materials will be provided.
Mary Rutherford
Your instructor for the day will be Mary Rutherford, who has a genuine love for teaching and traditional crafts. She is a long time supporter of Hart Square and can usually be found spinning at the Great Wheel during Fall Festival. Mary crafted her first corn shuck doll as a child and passes the tradition to others each year at John C. Campbell Folk School’s Little Middle Folk School.
