May Day has been celebrated for centuries across many cultures as a way to welcome the coming of Spring. This is NOT a festival with artist vendors. This is an event with demonstrating artists who invite you into their traditional craft or trade and share its history with you.  These demonstrators volunteer their time for visitors to observe the old-timey ways of crown blacksmithing, basket weaving, old-time music, and other traditional folkways. A central activity in the middle of the historic village will be the popular May Pole dancing and flower crown making. (This is a wonderful Mother's Day activity for the whole family.)  If you are someone who enjoys our annual October Heritage Festival or Christmas in the Village, then you will love this event. It is a smaller-scale version of those "step back in time" events with the newness of Spring.
