School Field Trips

Field trips are $15 a student with no tax. 

Teachers and administrative staff are free.

 Chaperones are $20. Chaperone passes can be purchased on the website on the gift shop page.

Field trips start promptly at 9:30 a.m. We suggest that schools arrive between 9:00 a.m. and 9:15 a.m.
Lunch is usually around 11:30 a.m.
Field trips end at 1:30 p.m.

Every field trip involves a tour of the collection as well as 3 demonstrations. Generally, we have blacksmithing, Native American storytelling, and apple cider making. Occasionally, we have Appalachian music, corn husk angel making, and woodworking.

Lunch is usually around 11:30. We ask that the schools bring the students’ bagged lunches. There will be a break for lunch where students and teachers can eat in the covered picnic area.

We will invoice your school 30 days prior to your trip date. Payment is due 14 days prior to the date your school will attend.

An adult 18 and older associated with the school attending the field trip. Younger siblings or children in strollers are not chaperones.

No. All chaperone passes must be purchased at hartsquare.com before the field trip. This allows us to know who is at the museum, while your child is there. We want to ensure that your child’s safety comes first.

You can change the number of students if your enrollment changes. Our pricing is based on the enrollment number at the time of your invoice. Pricing is not based on day-of attendance.

Our historic site will be handicap accessible when the education center is completed in 2020. Currently, we are not handicap accessible but we can provide other field trips and educational experiences for your class. Please contact us about your specific class.

Our programming proceeds rain or shine. We have tents set up for any outdoor stations.  Please encourage your students to wear closed-toed shoes and pack a raincoat. 

Our site will follow the Catawba County School System’s inclement weather policy. If there is a delay or school is canceled due to weather, we will work with you to either delay or reschedule the field trip.

Yes. We will have the bus gate open at 8:30 a.m. We encourage busses to arrive around 9:00 a.m.

There will be signs from the entrance to the parking area. There will be an attendant to direct you.

No.  Field trips are exempt from sales tax because their income is for purpose program revenue for our non-profit foundation.
